Hello there!
This time it's not a release but a notice, most of you already know about it, but some obviously don't.
Someone reported to me that our projects, willeke's, and apparently other groups' works have been uploaded on certain sites/tumblr without asking for permission.
Now, and I'm speaking for Ikemen, it's not a big deal. Since our distribution policy is pretty lenient. We require only three things:
- leave the credit pages in our release,
- link back to us/mention where the scans are from,
- avoid posting the doujins on Youtube, since artists can spot them more easily and rage back at us. (Mangakas usually don't like seeing their work on the net)
The main problem is with this shitty site and its associated facebook page, which I won't name to avoid advertising them, but they removed our credit pages and watermarked the scans.
Why is it wrong?
First, scanlating a doujin takes A LOT of time, so as a token of apreciation, the least you can do is to keep that credit page naming the ones involved in the hard work.
Secondly, having our groups' name mentioned in the scanlated doujin can rediect people to more of our projects and thus bring us more followers, which is an important source of motivation and support.
And last but not least, I don't watermark the scans because I believe we don't own them, the owner is the mangaka. Scanlating is a hobby, a fanwork, you shouldn't butcher scans with those. Even more so when you watermark while you did nothing in the scanlation process besides reuploading the doujin. Also, putting up adfly links on your online reader between every page, is a pretty questionable method and it makes the reading really fucking annoying.
Note that I'm not criticizing any groups' methods, to each their own policy. But I hope you'd respect the managaka's AND our work in the future. Thank you.
Btw, a release is coming soon, of course. Look out for it!
